Admiration/Inspiration

I am so excited to get this blog back to a regular blog. You know, where I can post whatever I want and not feel restricted by (or guilty about not) posting photo projects.

One thing I want to do is to interject artists that I am mildly obsessed with once in a while. I see so many amazing artists around town, and also online all the time thanks to blogs like The Jealous Curator and Art Hound and I want to share my faves.

So, I was at The Woods, in a pretty grumpy mood, playing Bingo and drinking Bourbon. I went to the bathroom and what did I find? The most amazing paintings on display. Giant and colorful and perfect. I stood and stared far longer than anyone waiting for the bathroom. I immediately made note of the artist and spent quite a while the next day ogling and reading and marveling about Joan Hiller.

Swoon.

I love love love the paint by numbers style of the paintings and they were even more gorgeous in person, not to mention giant and I want one! She does commissions, too! I have a birthday coming up, I'm just saying. :) She is having a show at Tiga in March, so I might have to save up and get one of these magical paintings.

This reminded me, I have had an idea in my mind of embroidering based on old paint by number canvases, but have yet to come across any that I like. Maybe I should try my hand at creating my own.

Jeez Louise.

I can't believe it has been a month since I wrote in here. Jeeeez. What a slacker. Well what can I blog about, if anyone is even reading this.

My sister is engaged, so I am going to visit her this weekend. I am really looking forward to it because I will get to spend the whole weekend with her rather than trying to fit visiting with her into whatever else I have planned when I visit Sacramento. I will be on her turf (Santa Rosa) and catering to her whims. I hope I survive.

My house is in disarray, as two people are moving out, me and the other lovely lady are switching rooms, and two new people are moving in. Also the new roommates have a cat! Really anxious for all of this moving stuff to be over so I can settle into having my own room for the first time in almost a year. Crazy.

I recently read The Time Traveler's Wife, and then saw the movie a couple days ago. I have very mixed feelings about it all. The book I liked. I really loved it at first, time traveling, mixed up story line, likeable characters. But then I got a little bored with it once reality kicked in. The trailer for the movie has the most horrible song ever in it, making the movie look extremely over the top cheesy, which is what I was afraid they would turn it into. Focusing more on the Romance than the Time Travel. I guess that's what sells. My biggest problem with the movie was just that, but I went into it expecting that. They rushed through all the parts and aspects of the book that I liked and focused mostly on the "reality" which was what kind of bored me in the book. But overall, I think the movie did a good job of bringing to life a portion of the book, but it just wasn't completely encompassing of the full story. If that makes sense. However, I know that a movie that completely translated from the book would be impossible to make since the book spans such a huge amount of time. I could probably go on and really pick the movie apart, but I won't. I liked it. Didn't love it. The book is way better and way more interesting.

Went to see Julie and Julia with V. Very inspirational and once this heat goes away, expect Mostly Soup to be updated like crazy! Haven't been much into cooking at all in the heat.

Went to the Oregon coast recently with my favorite of favorites, and did not want to come back. One day I will live at the beach. One day.

Ok, that's enough outta me.

P.S. If you haven't already, check out Topical Thursday. Really fun blog with lots of great artists contributing! Sort of honored to even be part of it!

Finally.

So, after years of people telling me that I should probably figure out a way to sell my portraits and stuff, I set up an etsy account. For now, there is not much there, but I am going to work on that a lot in the coming days/weeks, as well as redesign my website. Lofty goals, I know. On etsy, I am going to offer Custom Vector portraits, silhouettes, maybe some felt portraits/silhouettes after I try it out, maybe some abandoned vintage clothes here and there, who knows. The sky is the limit.

SHESAGIANT.ETSY.COM!

Please please tell everyone! If they want something custom illustrated, send them my way!

Here is a sampling of some of the silhouettes I have been working on.

The lovely Kristin of HissAndHearse.com, who got this whole ball rolling with her genius ideas.

The extremely talented Jessica M., who has always been an inspiration and muse to me.

People really love bikes. I am going to do a road bike really soon too.

This is going to be some kinda logo for my new site, I think.

Let me know if you have any ideas for things to be silhouetted, or if you or anyone you know might want something done! Babies, dogs, your mom, whatever!

Giants and more

In all the craziness of last Thursday, I went into a little gallery whose name I already forgot, and was wowed instantly by the work of Julie Morstad. I think I might be a little late on this, because some of her pieces look familiar, but maybe I am just dreaming her drawings!

There was a slightly different version of this at the show, it was my favorite!

I am off to Sacramento for a quick weekend trip, ciao!

New Project

Someone really awesome told me that I should try to recreate my vector drawings with felt. I tried it, and it was really fun, and it turned out pretty great.

Now a couple of questions. Where can I buy Shadow box frames for cheap? and would you buy something like this from Etsy?

Giants!

I am totally in love with this entire collection of giants from Pietari Posti.

This is my new mascot.

She's a Giant! Literally! A really adorable one at that!

artsy

Since I am not working, I am trying to be productive as much as I can. Meaning I am trying to get back into making vector art in between applying for jobs. I really do enjoy it when I am doing it for fun or for friends. I am toying with the idea of selling prints on Etsy, but that would mean getting them printed and framed etc, and well it wouldn't be that difficult, I just don't know if I want to do it. Not sure how big a demand there is for these things.

Here are some recent ones I have done in the past couple weeks.

I really love all three of these. Look for more and more and more soon over at Shesagiant.com and a super secret project I am going to start working on soon!
